Ohio tax, title and license
What an Ohio TTL estimate includes
Ohio tax, title and license (TTL) combines the supported sales/use tax estimate with title-office charges and the selected passenger registration path. Sales tax uses the purchaser's county/transit taxing location; permissive tax uses the owner's municipality or township; and the $18 or $23 title amount follows the title-office county in this project's verified mapping.
A full-year registration includes the $36 annual passenger fee, Deputy Registrar service fee, permissive tax, and applicable hybrid/PHEV/BEV addition. A current-registration transfer is a separate $9 path including its deputy fee; the supported replacement-only path is $15 plus $10 number retention. Neither plate-only path automatically renews registration or repeats annual charges.
TTL does not mean every amount needed to buy a car. Dealer documentary charges, optional products, delivery or preparation items, and lender costs are not government TTL. The calculator's vehicle-price-plus-TTL subtotal is not an out-the-door price; it does not add every dealer-controlled amount.
Complete engine example: new Ohio purchase
Assumptions: $25,000 new vehicle, purchaser in Franklin County (8.00% district), $5,000 qualifying trade and $7,000 payoff paid to a third party after vehicle-price calculation, two-year gasoline registration, $10 annual permissive tax, Franklin title office, ordinary first standard plates.
- Estimated sales tax on $20,000 taxable base
- $1,600.00
- Two-year passenger registration, permissive tax and deputy fee
- $104.00
- Franklin County title-office amount
- $23.00
- Estimated Ohio TTL
- $1,727.00
The related vehicle price plus TTL subtotal is $26,727.00. It is not labeled OTD because this calculation does not include all dealer-controlled or optional charges. See the Ohio out-the-door calculator for that separate estimate.

Ohio TTL questions
Frequently asked questions
What does tax, title and license include in Ohio?
This estimate combines supported vehicle sales/use tax, title charges, and selected passenger registration and plate amounts. It does not automatically include every dealer or lender charge.
Does Ohio TTL include the dealer documentary fee?
No. The documentary service charge is dealer-controlled, not a government title or registration fee. It may appear in an OTD estimate but is separate from TTL.
Does TTL include the full vehicle price?
No. The result is the fee/tax subtotal. The displayed vehicle price plus TTL is a planning sum, not an out-the-door price.
Why are sales-tax and permissive-tax locations different?
Ohio sales tax follows the purchaser's taxing location. Permissive tax is based on the owner's municipality or township for registration.
Does a qualifying trade-in change Ohio TTL?
It can lower sales tax on a qualifying new-vehicle dealer purchase. The used-dealer or private-party path does not get the same deduction.
Are Ohio EV charges included in TTL?
Yes, when the selected powertrain and registration term apply. The engine adds the verified annual powertrain fee as part of registration.
