Georgia Out-the-Door Price Calculator

A Georgia out-the-door estimate adds the negotiated vehicle price, TAVT, title, registration, dealer charges, and selected products. Trade equity and cash down affect the separate amount remaining—not the OTD price.

Out-the-door estimate

Choose the transaction that matches the sale; Georgia uses different value rules for each path.
Exclude charges entered separately below to avoid counting them twice.
Use the dealer’s accepted allowance, not trade equity. Private-party purchases do not qualify for this deduction.
Deducted on the supported new-dealer path only.
Georgia generally includes dealer add-ons/accessories in the TAVT value basis.
Excluded from the TAVT base only when separately itemized as qualifying warranty/service products.
The reduced new-resident path is eligibility-based; confirm with DOR or your county tag office.
BEVs owe the annual fee either way. PHEVs owe it only when electing an AFV plate.
Transfer requires a valid existing Georgia plate of the same class. A new AFV plate may add a one-time manufacturing fee.

Keep the Georgia OTD price separate from what remains after trade and cash

Out-the-door price is the estimated transaction total: selling price, TAVT, title, registration, dealer charges, and selected optional products. It is not the same as the estimated amount remaining after trade equity and cash down.

Trade allowance is the amount the dealer credits for your vehicle. Subtract the lender payoff to get positive or negative equity. TAVT’s supported dealer trade deduction uses the eligible allowance, not the net equity. Cash down and trade equity do not reduce the OTD figure itself.

Georgia’s official materials reviewed do not clearly resolve TAVT treatment of rolled-over negative equity. The calculator shows negative equity in the amount-remaining calculation but does not add rolled-over negative equity to taxable TAVT value. Confirm the dealer’s itemized taxable basis with the tag office. See Georgia trade-in and TAVT details.

Engine-generated Georgia OTD example

Assume a $30,000 new vehicle, a $5,000 qualifying dealer trade allowance, $7,000 loan payoff, $500 documentation fee, $1,200 itemized service contract, and $3,000 cash down. The taxable base used here is $25,500: retail plus documentation fee less the trade allowance. Rolled-over negative equity tax treatment is not modeled.

Vehicle price + doc fee − trade allowance

− $7,000.00
Net trade equity

Cash down

ESTIMATED AMOUNT REMAINING

Government charges and dealer charges are different

TAVT, title, and registration are government charges. Documentation/processing fees and optional service products are dealer or seller charges; they are not government fees. Georgia’s current regulation includes specified dealer fees, freight, delivery, add-ons, and markups in the TAVT value basis, while separately itemized warranties and service contracts are excluded.

Use the Georgia dealer fee checker to classify each line on a buyer’s order before treating it as a government charge.

Common OTD mistakes

  • Subtracting cash down or trade equity from the displayed OTD amount.
  • Using trade equity instead of trade allowance for the supported TAVT deduction.
  • Assuming rolled-over negative equity’s tax treatment without confirming the contract’s taxable basis.
  • Not separating itemized service contracts from accessories and dealer add-ons.

Georgia OTD questions

Frequently asked questions

What does out-the-door price include in Georgia?

It estimates vehicle selling price plus TAVT, title, passenger registration/tag charges, dealer-controlled charges, and selected optional products.

Does trade equity reduce the OTD price?

No. The OTD transaction total remains separate. Trade value less payoff is shown afterward as equity and used to estimate the amount remaining.

Does trade payoff reduce the TAVT trade deduction?

The supported TAVT path deducts the qualifying trade allowance, not allowance minus payoff. Treatment of rolled-over negative equity is not calculated because official guidance reviewed did not resolve it clearly.

Are documentation fees included in Georgia TAVT value?

Georgia Rule 560-11-14 includes dealer fees and similar charges in the value basis for supported dealer purchases. The buyer’s order should identify the actual amounts and terms.

Are warranties part of Georgia TAVT value?

Separately itemized extended warranties, service contracts, and similar products are excluded under the rule; the calculator treats the optional-products field that way only for those itemized products.

Is estimated amount remaining my financed balance?

No. It is a planning subtraction of trade equity and cash down from estimated OTD. It is not a lender quote or financing approval.
